Morris Minor Convertible 1960 - NOT FOR SALE
History:
My Morris Minor 1000 convertible was advertised in the save a classic section of practical classics magazine for £300. This was over 20 years ago. It was a white saloon in poor condition but the engine ran. I fully restored the car as a saloon, then changed my mind & decided to create a show quality convertible.
I used a convertible kit for the conversion. This consisted of strengthening the A and B posts and fitting new sills. Once the chassis was repaired (and braced) a large paper template with a dashed line with the words cut here was taped to the roof and then cut off using a jig saw! New hood & frame was then fitted & the windscreen top dressed to replicate the original.
Taught myself to weld, spray & panel beat. Came 3rd in a Morris minor contest some years ago
Driving
Surprisingly nippy. The 948cc engine is a very smooth unit maybe because I replaced the big ends & valve gear. If you take your time the gearbox is a snappy delight to use. Too quick & you will crunch the gears. You have to drive this car & anticipate braking and corners. You get people stopping in there tracks to look as you drive by. Always guaranteed to get let out at junctions - even by BMW drivers!!!
